Settings

The pomodoro technique is simple: work in a fixed block, stop when the timer says so, take a real break, repeat. The value is not in the specific numbers — it is in deciding once, at the start, when you will stop, so the decision is not sitting there competing for attention while you work.

This timer stays out of the way. Pick an interval, press start, and leave it in a background tab; the remaining time shows up in the tab title, and a chime marks the end of each block. When a focus interval finishes it queues the right break for you automatically, including the longer one after every fourth session.

Getting the intervals right

Twenty-five minutes is the traditional block, but it is a starting point rather than a rule. If you routinely find yourself interrupted before the bell, shorten it — a block you actually finish is worth more than a longer one you abandon halfway. If you tend to hit your stride at the twenty minute mark, lengthen it to forty or fifty and take a proportionally longer break.

The break matters as much as the work. Standing up, looking out of a window, or walking to fill a glass of water all restore attention. Checking messages does not, which is why the break is timed too.

Controls

Start / PauseBegins the interval, or pauses it without losing your place.
ResetReturns the current interval to its full length.

Questions

Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. The countdown is worked out from a fixed end time rather than by counting ticks, so background throttling, a locked screen or a sleeping laptop cannot make it drift. Switch back and it shows the correct time immediately.

Are my settings saved?

Your interval lengths, preferences and today's session count are stored on your own device only. Nothing is sent anywhere, and there is no account to make.

What are the standard pomodoro intervals?

The usual pattern is 25 minutes of focus followed by a 5 minute break, with a longer 15 minute break after every fourth session. All four numbers are adjustable if a different rhythm suits you better.

Why does the tab title show a countdown?

So you can leave the timer in a background tab and still see the time remaining in the tab strip, without needing to switch back to it.
